Surrender & Detachment

Analogy

Imagine you’re out in the ocean on a small boat, and you’re trying to row to your destination. You can see your destination in the distance, and you’re determined to get there. However, the ocean is choppy and unpredictable, and no matter how hard you row, you’re not making much progress. You’re getting frustrated and exhausted, and you start to feel like you’re never going to reach your destination. Now imagine that you stop rowing and instead, you let the current take you. You surrender to the natural flow of the ocean, trusting that it will take you where you need to go. You’re no longer fighting against the current, and you’re able to relax and enjoy the journey. You might still encounter some waves and obstacles, but you’re not struggling against them anymore. You’re simply allowing them to come and go, without trying to control or resist them. This is what surrender and detachment feel like.
